Talking about training the lateral to reach the wire(please try to understand “THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE GROWING FROM THE TRUNK AT THIS TIME”) The whole point is to get to the wire, let it grow past the wire till it’s pencil thickness at the CORDON WIRE. When it is then cut through the first bud under cordon wire and secure your trunk to the cordon wire…I can’t explain it any simpler than this. From this point of time your next objective is to let the 3 or 4 buds below the wire send out new laterals chose to healthiest put them on the wire 3ed one you snip at one bud for spare and get rid of the forth.Video part 2 explains more about creating the crown and cordons…There is now 10 videos so far to guide you to create this and finally have some great bunches…The reason for videos well it did not happen overnight…Each video shows you different stages…the best thing about my videos they have a follow up…And they involve the same plants from planting to the stage where they are now.. The most important thing is to chose a verity that grows in your area. That dose not mean that you can’t experiment. You need to know if that vine grows better on arbor, arch or walkway or trellis. Most table grapes exa: Red Emperor prefer and grow better on a arbor, arch, walkway…I need to be different mane is on a trellis will see. Majority of other brands grow just fine on a wire. How much room do you need? They can grow in a fear size pot, I seen them in a half by half meter pots quite happy and producing not many but few clusters. On the wire, well as they say how long is the piece of string. In vineyards they are approximately 3m wide. In your back yard you can plant one on one side of a house and some times in future it will grow all around from that one trunk. There is no limit, or rules its more where you imagination wants that vine to go and how far. They don’t like to much fertilizer they grow best in Volcanic rocky type of soil, but just as well in yours and mine back yard.
Soil PH is important on average most of them are happy at between 6 and 7 reading. If you a in a hurry then you can purchase on line or from your local supplier a 2 or 3 year old vine that has a trunk height of cordon wire. So you just plant it in winter (when it’s in dormant state) tie the trunk to the cordon wire and wait for buds to push through and you create cordons on the wire. As soon as cordons are long enough to have 8 to 10 buds and pencil thickens then cut them right through the node. If this happens early in Spring you might get some grapes. Simply once you have cut it vines instinct is to send all the energy to that area. And push new laterals through usually last 3 to 4 buds. And if the plant is happy it might have time to give you a cluster or two like it gave me…So I believe that everyone should have one at least growing in the back yard.
I have three red and tree white ones of different verity planted between posts that have 9 meters space between them.I have a two wire system where 4 of them are trained up to a top cordon wire, and two of them trained up to a bottom cordon wire. It’s not hard at all, my videos are about the same vines going through the beginning to producing grapes.

I’m also running a Blog on Google + about my knowledge on grapes and how I ended up in vineyards…Thank you…Stay safe and Cheers…Roy..
